Man sentenced to life in jail for stabbing partner to death after she became obsessed with playing Grand Theft Auto

While checking out my daily newspaper manifesto in Fark.com, I found this one:
Man sentenced to life in jail for stabbing partner to death after she became obsessed with playing Grand Theft Auto
A man who murdered his partner after she became obsessed with computer games was today jailed for life.
Malcolm Palmer, 62, stabbed Carol Cannom repeatedly with a lock knife and steak knife in front of their 10-year-old son, Lincoln Crown Court heard.
The court was told 46-year-old Miss Cannom had become hooked on her son’s Playstation console and would often be on it until the early hours of the morning.
Palmer, a former worker at Heathrow Airport, was ordered to serve at least 14 years in prison as he was handed a life sentence by Judge Michael Heath.
Palmer, of Long Sutton, Lincolnshire, earlier admitted the murder of Miss Cannom at their home on November 19 2008.
Jailing Palmer, Judge Heath said: ‘There is no justification or excuse for what you did on November 19 of last year.
‘You are of previous good character, an industrious, devoted family man but for some time before November 19 your relationship was under some strain.
‘I can make no judgment as to why that was, although you felt certain it was because your partner became addicted to playing on a Playstation, sometimes staying up until four or five in the morning.
‘You felt rejected and unwanted as you were asked to leave the home that you shared with her.’
The judge added: ‘The other aggravating feature of the attack was that it was ferocious.
‘Their mortgage was paid and they didn’t need to work. They had a lot of time on their hands and little chance to get away from each other.
‘In the past, dad had worked a lot and mum was always outside - looking after the animals on the smallholding. They started to get on each other’s nerves, to grind each other down.
‘There were suggestions in court of mum having an internet and text affair. It just wasn’t the case. She was a lonely woman who sent a few messages. She never met anyone.
‘And playing on the Playstation a lot, which was also mentioned by the defence barrister, was just a release, a bit of escapism, neither of them were happy by that time.
‘For me this conviction is not easy. I’ve lost both my parents now. My head tells me that justice has to be done and dad deserves to go to prison, my heart just worries about him and misses him. I think about him lying in his cell, alone.’
Detective Inspector Phil Denison added that it was a ‘double tragedy’ for the couple’s 10-year-old son, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
DI Denison said: ‘The sentence quite properly reflects the seriousness of the offence and the very early guilty plea which saves further trauma for the family.
‘Not all relationships break down but inevitably some do and there are a raft of agencies out there who can help.
‘It’s important to recognise when something is happening early in a relationship and to communicate with each other rather than bottling it up.’
Too Long; Didn’t Read
Well here’s the moral lesson: All Video Gamers are not molded into violent criminals. Sometimes its nice to think that guys aside from the gaming scene are more violent.
A nice article to sip beer while making fun of Jack Thompson to be honest. Ahahahahah. Anyways, Gametrailers.com got some videos on Bioshock 2 gameplay. You guys gotta go check it out.
Red Faction: Guerrilla trailer delivers a beat down with the Ostrich Hammer
by News Bot on Apr.05, 2009, under PC Gaming News
Although this may seem like an April Fool’s Day video, the Ostrich Hammer will be a real unlockable item available in Red Faction: Guerrilla’s multiplayer. Not even the destruction tech and weapons trailers can prepare you for this one. How will players take to being beaten down by a giant bird? More importantly, is PETA going to protest the game now?

Konami takes over as Saw movie game publisher; first screenshots released
by News Bot on Apr.05, 2009, under PC Gaming News

A couple of months ago Variety posted up rumors that Konami was going to take over as the publisher of the game based on the Saw horror films. Today Variety has now confirmed those rumors, saying that the publisher will release the Zombie Studios-developed game for the PC and other platforms this fall, around the time Saw IV is released to theaters by Lionsgate.
The Variety article also has the first actual screenshots from the game (reproduced here) The game itseld will have an original story and not an adaptation of any of the films. The game has your character trying to solve the nasty torture puzzles put in place by the movie’s villain Jigsaw. The game was one of the many titles under the now defunct Brash Entertainment which went under in a rather spectacular fashion lasf fall.

THQ says it has ’substantially completed’ its budget cuts
by News Bot on Apr.05, 2009, under PC Gaming News
THQ’s era of cost-cutting to deal with a reduction in revenue is now ‘substantially completed’ according to a new company press release. The game publisher stated that it has reduced its new 2010 fiscal year budget (which officially began on Wednesday) by $220 million. It’s CEO
Brian Farrell says THQ’s goal is to get back to being profitable in the new fiscal year.
THQ’s problems over the past 12 months are well known as a number of their game titles failed to meet sales expectations. THQ began a rather brutal process of cutting expenses which included shutting down or selling off a number of internal game developers and cutting 600 jobs across the board or nearly a quarter of their entire work force. Still up in the air is the fate of THQ studio Big Huge Games which the publisher plans to either shut down or sell off by mid-May

Sniper next in line to get the Team Fortress 2 upgrade treatment
by News Bot on Apr.05, 2009, under PC Gaming News
While the Sniper Jarate weapon may have been an April Fool’s joke on Wednesday, it was also a rather large hint. The Team Fortress 2 web site has posted up word that the Sniper character will be the next one to receive Valve’s attention for their continuing work on the multiplayer shooter. In his post, Valve’s Greg Cherlin states, “It’s actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks.”
And that’s not all, Cherlin also says, ” , , , we’ve got another update in the works that should be done before the Sniper, and that one will include some new content for all classes.” Hmm..new character skins perhaps? Naturally there’s no word on when to expect these updates.
